*A jeweler is the term that is used to describe a person who sells fine jewelry in retail stores. Jewellery is used as an adornment that is meant for beautification. Some examples of such are necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and brooches. These jewellery pieces can be made out of precious metals, diamonds, pearls, gemstones, beads and other indigenous materials like shells. Jewelry is designed using attractive patterns and significant symbols. The items that resemble jewellery but have no purpose in adorning a person are different from jewellery. And items that are used to accessorize outfits, like belts and bags, are not jewellery but accessories.
Adorning oneself with jewellery used to be regarded as a sign of wealth. Also, pieces authentic pieces with minimum functionality were looked at as personal adornments. The first pieces of jewellery that were discovered were made of indigenous materials. Such materials were shells, wood, stone, animal teeth and bones. It is through these materials and certain characteristics that a social group could be identified. Jewellery that had a more exotic appeal was believed to be owned by rich people. The fact was reinforced when the object was rarer. Also, because of this personal nature, a person could be distinguished in his/ her social class because of the jewellery that was buried with him/ her when he was buried.
Now, there is a jewellery piece for every part of the body. Hairpins, toe rings, nose rings, tongue rings and many more items are considered to be different types of jewellery. And while traditional pieces are adorned with gemstones, silver or gold, there is also a large demand for more artistic pieces. These pieces that showcase more creativity and less cost are called costume jewellery. Another variation is the wire wrap jewellery. These pieces are created by wrapping stones, gemstones and even rocks with wire and creating it into something stunning.
